Alternate Future History - Rise of Atlantia

This is just a practice of an alternate future, not meant to be directed into politics or offend anyone.

SCENARIO:
By the start of 2016, Emperor Akihito of Japan died of natural causes and was succeeded by his son and Crown Prince, Naruhito. The following Prime Ministers were very weak, did very little to nothing at all to contribute and improve the situation in Japan and destabilized the island nation. The problem got even worse when the long-term effects of the 9/11 attacks 15 years ago began to hit the United States and other countries across the globe. The U.S. lost global markets at many levels and brought on an economic depression far worse than the 1930s. Social upheaval happened across the western world.

The Russian Federation plunged into chaos after being the hit by the depression. Russian President Vladimir Putin was very devoted to his nation and seeing his country falling apart, he sought to do the unthinkable. So, he dissolved the Congress, federalized ideas were thrown in the trash and Russia fell into a military dictatorship. During his regime, Putin put the plans of the Treaty of the Union State of Russia and Belarus into effect, absorbing the smaller nation into the largest country in the world. By early 2017, 100 years after the First Russian Revolution which led to the rise of the Soviet Union and communism came the Second Russian Revolution, where a leftist group called the Revolutionaries for Eurasian Democracy and Socialism or REDS, led by a young Russian scholar, Aleksandr Kraubayin, inspired many Russians to stand against the corrupt dictatorial government and with this, Putin lost many supporters who mutinied him and turned to the socialist movement for solutions. At October 1, 2017, Putin was assassinated in Moscow by REDS snipers. Now with the corrupt bastard dead and the revolution imminent, the movement was successful. Kraubayin turned Russia into a single-party socialist state once again. Many opposed the new Eurasian socialist government and in opposition caused the Second Russian Civil War, and by late 2022, the socialists won and their political opponents were destroyed. In a few years, the Russian Federation fell and out come the Union of Eurasian Communist Republics. Ukraine, still torn apart in the Ukrainian Civil War, was annexed by the Eurasian Union after pro-Eurasian supporters outnumbered those of the government. Socialist revolutions were also successful in India and Latin America, including Mexico and Brazil, with the help of Cuba, giving rise to various communist governments there. Soon, anti-capitalist movements were funded across the African continent and for the most part was a success for the communists, with federal states founded, including the Union of South African Socialist States, West African Socialist Federation and the Democratic Federal Mittelafrika.

Meanwhile in Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun was badly affected by the Depression. At September 29, 2016, Japanese Prime Minister Genbu Kururugi, seeking to replicate Putin's methods to bring prosperity, led a military coup against the government, cancelling the elections and suspending the democratic 21st century constitution. This move created uproar among many, including a young lawyer running for government named Satsujin Yamaragi, who thought that would Japan back to the dark ages it underwent before and during World War II. Under Kururugi, corruption and crime ran wild. People went hungry, food was on short supply, education was becoming unlikely to the youth, rape and murder were common; his rule became disliked by many political Japanese. Inspired by the successful Russian Revolution, uprisings and revolts sprung up in Japan, with the people blaming the government for the terrible situations they were in. This began the Japanese Revolution, where the people demanded change and to stray away from the old behaviors that only bring no good. Now believing the government couldn't be changed from the inside, Yamaragi formed a rebel group known as Ninth of August Movement at August 9, 2017 in the Ryukyu and Kyushu Islands, slowly earning support by locals as they combated Kururugi's forces. Across Japan, resent flared towards the regime. In 2019, a failed assassination on Kururugi by students and brutal crackdown on opponents by his government led the U.S. to distance itself from Japan.

Yamaragi gained international recognition for his war against the dictator and was praised by the media across the globe. In 2020, Kururugi sent in 10,000 troops into the Kyushu Island to take down Yamaragi's insurgency. This offensive ended in failure and in retreat, Yamaragi was able to go on an offensive against the government. By August 9, 2020, 75 years after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Kururugi was killed by rebels loyal to Yamaragi in Tokyo. However, at the time, the revolution wasn't only against the Kururugi regime, it was now targeted against the monarchy as well. Naruhito tried to escape via airplane but it was damaged by rouge Japanese revolutionaries and the Emperor was captured. Naruhito abdicated his throne and with nobody to take his place, the 3000-year-old Yamato dynasty in Japan effectively ended. Soon, the victorious Yamaragi marched into Tokyo as a hero and liberator. However, this image of a hero began to erode away as his plans of a democratic Japan became more like an empty promise. At first, purges were celebrated against former Kururugi supporters, but then gradually he went against anti-monarchs, even those were his former allies.

Japan soon transformed from a monarchy to a monarchy, akin to the French Revolution in the late 18th century where France went from a kingdom to an empire instead. Japan was renamed the Kingdom of Atlantia and Yamaragi renamed himself Atlaios, who leaned entirely to the Western powers. Atlantia is fully open to the West and became tainted with influences coming from the US and Europe. Atlaios saw the Japanese culture and tradition the reason for the archipelago's corruption and downfall, so he commenced plans to purge Atlantia of all Japanese influences. All Shintoist and Buddhist sites and temples were destroyed, many monks were executed, the country was entirely industrialized and English became the official language of Atlantia with Japanese being a minority language. The nobility, upper and middle class former Japanese citizens were given the nationality of Atlantians. The poor people, commoners and lower class civilians, on the other hand, were completely stripped away of their citizenship and renamed subhumans. "Subhumans" are a kind of people with no citizenship or civil recognition whatsoever, often neglected by the more powerful people. They are regarded as less than nothing in the eyes of the higher class citizens. The biggest change in Atlantia was the upbringing of Christianity. Atlaios was a very devoted Christian with ambitions to create an empire to spread the legacy of Jesus across the globe and spread his Word. Eventually, all of his subjects were converted to Christianity, either by request or force. Japanese culture and Shinto and Buddhist religions are non-existent. A new Christian system, the Atlantian Orthodox Church, was created. Its functions are much similar to the Eastern Orthodox, only difference is that it is on a different place. Atlantia is a purely Christian nation.

In fact, through the years of Atlantian engineering, technology there surpassed that of the United States or the Eurasian Union. By 2025, Atlantia set up the first colony on the moon a year after the Eurasian Union made a manned mission there. Three years after, the UECR established the second colony there, with the United States setting up the third four years later.

By 2021, the conflicts in the South Balkan region tamed away and the countries of Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia and others joined the European Union. In the aftermath of the Second Russian Revolution, Germany was given the honors to restore itself to its former glory, absorbing the Kalingrad Oblast and former Silesian and Prussian regions in Poland, resurrecting Prussia, the heart of Germany that was once lost after World War II, into the Federal Republic. Poland as well reverted back to its pre-WWII borders. Turkey, fearing the Armenians might turn back to communism with the help of the Eurasian Union, by 2019, found it in the heart to finally accept the Armenian Genocide and apologize to the Armenians for the war crimes committed over a century ago. Two years later, Greece and others recognized Northern Cyprus' sovereignty and Turkey joined the European Union. Soon, the rest of all the EU members joined NATO. In 2035, the United States, with the support of the EU, made the first successful manned mission on Mars, with billions celebrating worldwide. The #manonmars became the most trending topic in the world. However, two years afterwards, Atlantia was still the first to colonize Mars, setting up a colony there, with the UECR being the second and the US being the third.

However, these scientific and engineering works came at a terrible price. Atlantia is strictly anti-communist and being that the Soviet Union reincarnated as a new superpower and many new Marxist nations rose across the globe did not make Atlaios happy, especially with Japan's longtime rival, the People's Republic of China. Even no longer as Japan, Atlantia still had strained relations with Korea, which unfortunately became the very first target for Atlantia's conquests. After the one-month-long Korean-Japanese War in March 2029, Korea was completely annexed into Atlantia, becoming core provinces to the kingdom and all Koreans living there either persecuted or converted to subhumans. North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, his entire family and most of his followers were all executed and the name "Korea" was literally wiped off the map. This move caused frustration among many Asians and Chinese. In response, CCP Secretary and Leader Shen Tse-tung, Mao Zedong's grandson, declared war against Atlantia. Thus began the Sino-Atlantian War, though most people liked to refer it as the Third Sino-Japanese War. The conflict started in February 2030 and ended in September 2037 when the Second Battle of Nanking was once again lost by the Chinese. China was forced to capitulate, Shen Tse-Tung and many Chinese military and political leaders executed by the Atlantian monarchy, and Manchuria was annexed into Atlantian territories, with the eastern portion as new provinces and the western parts as the new General Government established there. Out of the former People's Republic of China which ceased to exist, various anti-Communist Christian puppet states were established. Uyghurstan and West Mongolia were absorbed by the Eurasian Union as new ECR's (Eurasian Communist Republics). With the defeat of China, the Kingdom was renamed into the Holy Atlantian Empire, believing to be a rightful successor to the once-great Roman Empire.

At June 19, 2030, King Atlaios married a Samaritan woman named Grenada in a grand wedding ceremony where forty million attended all across Tokyo, now renamed New Atlantis, and three billion watched worldwide. At December 21, 2032, a newborn prince was born and named by the royal couple, Yaiba. Since he was born in the day of the Midnight Sun celebration in the winter solstice, he would be given the title "Midnight Sun King" upon ascension. Atlaios and Grenada's second-born named Tsurugi was born at April 20, 2037.

On the other side of the world, in the Middle East, the story is much, much darker than before. The United States struggled to combat and solve issues it was facing, including the Second Great Depression, the reviving world of communism and the rise of Islamist fanaticism in the War on Terror. In 2026, the US gave up and left Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and the Middle East to deal with internal problems instead. With the Greater Middle East affected by the Depression, the whole region was thrown into anarchy, like a chicken running without a head. Taking advantage of this chaos, the terrorist group ISIS which has been restlessly active for decades down the road conquered the extremely vulnerable states of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. Instead of Iran allying with the newly-founded Islamic State, the Islamic Republic was glad to join the self-proclaimed caliph. And so by 2033, Iran was annexed into the Islamic State in what was known by the West as the "Islamic Anschluss" and Supreme Leader Muhammad Abu Bakr Khirama rising to become the absolute ruler of IS and the renowned "Caliph of Islam", a title which had been vacant since Ottoman times. By 2036, IS invaded Afghanistan and a year later, Pakistan. Two years after, in 2039, the Arab League and Israel were still persistent to fight the growing Islamic State. Libya and Nigeria never truly recovered by the untold chaos. The Libyan Civil War between militias and armed groups still went on until the IS government used the nuclear technology that was stolen from Pakistan when it was taken over and launched two supernuclear missiles on Tripoli and Benghazi, wiping out a frightening toll of five million. IS warned the NATO not to intervene or a nuclear fallout would be exchanged. NATO was forced to listen to IS's demands and allow them to do whatever they want. Libya, Tunisia and Nigeria were soon annexed by IS. With nobody to question the Islamist policies, a mass extermination on non-Muslims, Christians, heretics, atheists, blacks, gypsies, Jews, Europeans, Assyrians, immigrants, minorities, homosexuals, communists and many more occurred after ISIS conquered Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East, which would be infamously known as the Great Islamic Genocide. As of 2052, a total of at least 40,000,000 people, in and out of the borders of the caliphate, were killed. Israel and the Arab League were slowly waning to the dominant force of the terrorist empire, but they refuse to lean onto the verge of collapse.

Meanwhile, as the exterior of the Holy Atlantian Empire expanded, trouble began to stir up from the inside out. Relationship between Atlaios and the poor populace had been falling long before. It all started with the Fallreed Mutiny of 2025 when a hundred armed subhuman rebels attacked a military base in Hiroshima, now renamed Fallreed, to gain weapons. This ended in failure with all being killed and those suspected of supporting the mutineers, innocent or guility, arrested and executed. The mutiny was used by the monarchy and Atlantian and Western friars to implicate three secular priests of Japanese subhuman origin, Takeshi Moriyama (renamed Mariano Gomez), Hiroshi Matsumoto (renamed Jose Burgos) and Yuuki Merujin (renamed Jacinto Zamora), collectively known as Gomburza, as the mastermind of the rebellion. They were executed through garrote, on February 28, 2025.  On January 27 of the same year, King Atlaios ordered the death sentences on forty-one of the mutineers. On February 6, eleven more were sentenced to death, but these were commuted to life imprisonment. Others were exiled to the Ryukyu Islands, renamed Newborn Islands. These executions, particularly those of the Gomburza, were to have a significant effect on people because of the shadowy nature of the trials. This act enraged the population, causing uproar and political turmoil.

In March 6, 2035, a revolutionary group called the Communist Party of Atlantia was founded by Chatur Ramalingnam. This party did not aim for running as the state's governing body since Atlantia is an absolute monarchy, its goal was to overthrow the corrupt system and replace it with a one-party democratic socialist government, much similar to the Eurasian Union and its satellite states. Two young scholars, Anthony Padildo and his best friend, Ian Hecocks, were funded by the Communist Party to infiltrate into the Great Imperial Palace to kidnap the baby Tsurugi with the help of an advanced robot droid built by the communists codenamed "Bringer", while the revolution was taking place, and flee to America to continue their studies and raise the baby there. However, the revolution became more than just that, for the violence escalated into the Atlantian Civil War. Taking advantage of Atlaios' mysterious death under unknown circumstances in May 5, 2037, he final plan was commenced in May 31 of the same year when an offensive on New Atlantis took place to finally settle things. This, however, ultimately ended in failure with most of its members being killed in action. All of the members of the Party were captured and executed, including founder Ramalingnam, and the Communist Party itself ceased to exist.

Fortunately for Padildo and Hecocks, the duo and Bringer successfully captured the baby Tsurugi and escaped into California, where Anthony and Ian continued to finish their education and Tsurugi raised under Anthony's kind roof.

After ascending into the throne, the Midnight Sun King Yaiba began to commence plans to subjugate the whole world under Atlantian hegemony and establish a world government with an iron fist. First, he needed to create a massive empire to match that of the US, the Eurasian Union and the Islamic State. A new process of invasion was invented by Yaiba, known as "capital capitulation". It is used to attack a major city or capital of a nation they wanted to conquer. They are to damage it and destroy its morale so badly that the besieged country would be forced to capitulate. During his rule, from the course of 2040-2050, countries such as East India, Myanmar, Malaysia and Thailand were invaded through capital capitulation and Christian-converted puppet states were founded in favor of Atlantia. New Zealand, Indonesia and Madagascar are under military occupation.

By early 2050, Anthony Padildo and Ian Hecocks returned to Atlantia to finish the regime they claimed evil. They founded a nationalist movement called the "Japanese League", aiming to dismantle Atlantia through revolution, bring back Japan and restore it back to the way it was before the Second Great Depression on 2016. At Labor Day of 2050, the Atlantian Revolution began when rebels revolted through the streets of New Atlantis after singing "Do You Hear the People Sing?" and constructed a barricade on the other part of the capital to keep themselves protected. However, things get awry when the barricade was destroyed by Atlantian imperial forces two days later and no prisoners were taken, killing all of the rebels and letting no one survive. Fortunately, Padildo and Hecocks escaped and returned to Los Angeles alive.

King Yaiba was incredibly furious with the revolution and decided to start world invasions right away. He, his left-hand man and royal adviser High Priest Garudos Randall, his right-hand man Highness Duke Shuten, succeeded by Ura and shortly later Rasetsu, Atlantian Army Commander Brau Balm, Amarello Berge, daughter of an executed revolutionary from the Civil War, a mischievous Ukrainian colonel Gordy Dain and Rirove Rakels, an alchemist from Turkey, by late 2050, began massive conquests on countries across the globe, either through full-scale invasions, capital capitulations or peaceful negotiations. Atlantia successfully took over Africa. Only the UECR satellite states and those within the Arabian League or IS were untouched. Yemen, Zambia, Somalia, Madagascar and others fell under military occupation. The use of capital capitulation was successful in Indochina, Taiwan and the Philippines, annexing them as new provinces. Many Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Filipinos, Africans and more were persecuted, murdered, enslaved, subject to forced labor or converted to subhumans. Atlantian puppet regimes were established in Ethiopia and South Sudan.

The most notable military success was the Atlantian occupation on the entire Eurasian Union. Moscow was attacked and a nuclear warheads were launched in four major Russian cities such as New Stalingrad, Leningrad and more, shocking the world to discover the horrifying truth: Atlantia is now armed with nuclear weapons. Yaiba warned the Russians that if they don't surrender, he will set more nuclear missiles loose across the whole union and eventually the world itself. The UECR and NATO couldn't do anything to stop it and eventually, the Eurasian Union fell to the Holy Atlantian Empire.

However, these conquests most of the time do not work in favor of the invaders. Failed capital capitulations were made in 21 countries such as in Berlin, New Delhi, Rio de Janeiro, Paris, New York, London, Barcelona and much more. The most notable Atlantian failure was the invasion on the United States. At June 6, 2050, 75 million Atlantian robotic troops known as Stingers, with a massive naval and air force and artillery, landed on Los Angeles on the West Coast and commenced a full-scale invasion on the West Coast. However, the US military with the help of NATO intervened and managed to barely hold back the invasions. 99% of the invasion force were wiped out and the rest either captured or forced to retreat. Also, the Atlantian occupation on the Eurasian Union did not last long for in March 2052, the UECR was liberated.

On June 30, 2052, Yaiba commenced an invasion on the Islamic State and marched into the State of Israel, weak from the constant struggles against the Islamic State, and formed a client state created and protected by the Atlantians but controlled at full by the Jews called the Second Kingdom of Jerusalem, one-thousand years after the creation of the first one as the aftermath of the First Crusade. Yaiba promised to make the Jewish people great once again and the Holy Land, "the lands assigned to them by their God shall be theirs". Jews and Atlantians would work together to smite down Israel's enemies. Thus, the Third Temple of Jerusalem was built in the site of the Old City beside the Dome of the Rock.

However, tensions between the superpowers are so great that it would only take a matter of time before the imminent start of World War III.
