It was the year 2051 A.D. The United States and its NATO allies were slowly recovering from the Second Great Depression that started from 2016, but not entirely. Ever since, the two religious powers that stand undefied and unquestioned, the Holy Atlantian Empire that expanded across Asia and the Pacific, and the Islamic State, which evolved all the way from a radical terrorist group to a brutal theocratic superpower, took over most of the Eastern Hemisphere and divided it among themselves between Christians and Muslims. NATO and its allies did little to intervene.

This map shows the Islamic State at its greatest extent from early to mid-2051. Starting from the end of the War on Terror, the IS took advantage. In 2025, ISIS successfully crushed Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria all at once. Two years later, Iran would join IS and Afghanistan and Pakistan would collapse under IS's supremacy. Soon, in 2031, the growing Islamic State expanded into Egypt, Arabia and Libya and by 2035, North Africa, Somalia and Ethiopia fell to caliphate.

The provinces of Khurasan, Orobpa and Qoqzaz were added, after the communist superpower, Eurasian Union, the second incarnation of the Soviet Union which rose from the Second Russian Revolution of 2017, collapsed to the relentless invasions from the Atlantian Empire. After suffering from four nuclear missiles fired from Atlantia, the UECR was forced to surrender. After which, West Mongolia, Ukraine, Belarus and all of Russia were under military occupation by the Atlantians with some talks and proposals for full annexation into the empire, with the Caucasian states and Central Asia absorbed by the Islamist caliphate.

The State of Israel was barely able to hold on from the massive empire with a total army of 135 million active Islamist soldiers. Since both Israel and IS have nuclear arsenals to burden, there wasn't a major conflict between the small nation and the giant superstate.

However, old habits die hard and hatred between Christians and Muslims reached at its peak, greater than the rift from the medieval Crusades a millennium ago. In fact, with a Muslim empire this big, it seemed that a Tenth Crusade would be inevitable and that all of Christendom would unite and reunify to fight a common foe once again.
